SALT LAKE CITY — Organizers have planned ahead for a buzzing downtown Saturday because of high-interest events like the Salt Lake City Marathon, a Utah Jazz playoff game, and FitCon Utah at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
Hundreds of runners have signed up for the marathon Saturday morning and that means road closures and delays are expected.
Sgt. Mark Wian from the Salt Lake City Police Department said, "Traditionally, this brings in a large amount of people whether they're the participants, spectators, those are just merely interested in checking it out."
There are other events happening throughout the morning like a half marathon, bike tour and short distance running events.
Routes will go through Salt Lake, parts of South Salt Lake, Sugar House and Holladay.

"There are some closures that may be permanent during the event and then there are some that will be intermittent," Wian said.

Salt Lake County and Utah Transit Authority encouraged residents to consider public transportation to avoid travel and parking delays.
"With this many people traveling in and around downtown Salt Lake, it's a great time to use public transit," said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. "Riding UTA is an easy, quick way to enjoy the Jazz game, catch the marathon, or explore downtown and I hope we get as many people as possible to ditch the traffic and try transit this Earth Day weekend."
Public transportation
UTA planned for an expanded TRAX schedule on Saturday. Officials added early morning trains on the Blue Line – starting at 4:18 a.m. — and the Red Line — starting at 4:07 a.m. – for the marathon.
The marathon begins at 7 a.m. near the University of Utah campus.
In addition, UTA said it will operate four-car TRAX trains on the Blue Line throughout the day.

"With more than 18,000 fans attending the Jazz playoff game, there is nothing more convenient than being dropped off in front of the Vivint Arena plaza," said Utah Jazz President Jim Olson. "We encourage fans to ride TRAX, arrive early to enjoy the pregame festivities, and cheer on our team."
