DRAPER — Two people have been arrested in the shooting deaths of two people outside a house party held at an Airbnb rental home in Draper last weekend.

Draper police announced Thursday that their officers, in cooperation with the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Ashtyn Ortega, 18, and a man who was 17 at the time of the shooting but has since turned 18. Both were arrested for investigation of aggravated murder.

Two arrest warrants were served simultaneously about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Draper Police Chief John Eining. One was served in Lehi where the 18-year-old man, whose name police did not release, was arrested. The other was in Herriman where Ortega was arrested.

The 18-year-old was booked into Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention because the shooting happening when he was still 17, the chief said. Both arrest warrants were sealed as of Thursday.

Both are accused in the shooting deaths of Austin Terry Powell, 27, and Jonathan July Fuentes, 21, early Sunday.

On that day, a party was winding down in an Airbnb rental home at 11464 Cranberry Hill (280 East) just after 1 a.m. when police say an uninvited party guest got into an argument with another person in the street in front of the house.

Eining said the argument was over bottles being thrown in the street.

As the argument escalated, shots were fired. One witness heard at least 10 shots. One man, the intended target, was shot and killed. The other, a bystander, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and he later died from his injuries.

Initially, police said they were looking for a Hispanic man with a stocky build who has tattoos on his face, including "801" tattooed over one of his eyebrows.

Additional information about how police tracked down the two people who were arrested Thursday was not immediately available. Eining said he believes all outstanding parties in the case have been arrested. He noted, however, that the investigation "is far from over."

In making his announcement, the chief thanked several law enforcement agencies, in particular the U.S. Marshals and the Utah State Crime Lab for their work resulting in the arrest of the two men.
