LOGAN — Police have arrested a man who they say assaulted a woman during an attempted kidnapping in Logan on Tuesday morning.

Logan police said they were able to identify the owner of the vehicle involved in the Tuesday incident as 34-year-old Carlos Cisneros-Diaz, thanks to help from the Brigham City Police Department, a Thursday press release from the department said. Brigham City officers recognized the gray Honda Civic in pictures taken at the scene of the attempted kidnapping as the car owned by Cisneros-Diaz, who they arrested around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning for a DUI.

Logan police detectives were able to gather enough information to obtain a search warrant of Cisneros-Diaz's car, where they located a "single flip-flop-type sandal" that matched the sandal that was found at the scene of the attempted kidnapping in Logan, the release said.

During an interview, police say Cisneros-Diaz admitted that he had been in Logan on Tuesday morning and had "been drinking alcohol and gotten into an argument with his wife." Police said Cisneros-Diaz also admitted to stopping at 300 South in Logan when he saw a woman, who he said he thought was his wife. He said he tried to "grab her and take her home," the release said.

Police said, during the interview, Cisneros-Diaz claimed that when he realized the woman was not his wife, he let her go.

The attempted kidnapping in Logan happened around 8 a.m. that same morning near 300 South and 150 West in Logan, with several people who witnessed it having taken photos of the gray Honda Civic.

The woman, who police say is in her 30s, was "punched in the face after a brief struggle," but received no further physical injuries, police said on Tuesday.

Cisneros-Diaz has been booked into the Cache County Jail for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, robbery, assault with substantial bodily injury and reckless driving, the Logan City Police report said.
