MILLCREEK — Three men were arrested Wednesday and accused of stealing more than $40,000 worth of bicycles from a store.

Peter Petrowske, 52, Marcus Bennett Thompson, 27, and Beau Allen Manion, 31, were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of burglary and theft.

On Monday, someone used a U-Haul truck to break open the doors of Hyland Cyclery, 3040 S. Highland Drive. Four men then entered the business and took eight bikes worth approximately $43,000, according to a police booking affidavit. The truck was later located near Fairmont Park, near 1050 East and 2200 South, but it was empty.

On Wednesday, officers received information that the bikes may be at a homeless camp near 1100 E. Ashton Ave., next to the park.

"Detectives walked through the homeless camp and several of the stolen bikes were located in the area, in plain view, including six of the eight stolen bicycles," the affidavit states.

Both Thompson and Petrowske were also found at the camp and determined to be connected to the burglary. Manion was picked up later. The search for the remaining suspect, who police have identified, continued Thursday.

Petrowske also had two outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest. He was charged in December with theft by receiving stolen property and burglary of a vehicle for taking a company's work vehicle and tools, according to charging documents. A warrant was issued for his arrest in January after he failed to show up for court. He was also charged with burglary in another case a year ago in Salt Lake City, according to court records, and a warrant was also issued in that case.
