RICHFIELD — A registered sex offender was arrested in Richfield Monday and accused of confronting a girl after cheerleading practice and making her a lewd offer.

Christopher Todd Peck, 42, of Richfield, was booked into the Sevier County Jail for investigation of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, attempting to engage in sexual activity for a fee, disorderly conduct and trespassing.

About 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, police say a girl was leaving Richfield High School and got into her car when she was approached by Peck.

"The victim said she then got into her car and put it in drive as she noticed the male in the truck next to her started knocking on his window pointing down. The victim stated she figured he was going to tell her that she had dropped something so she rolled her window down a couple inches," according to a police booking affidavit.

The man then asked her if she would give him her underwear in exchange for $30, the affidavit states.

The girl drove away, making sure she wasn't being followed. Police were contacted by the assistant principal the next day and officers reviewed surveillance video from the parking lot.

Right before the officer went to the school, he was given a photo of Peck who is a suspect in another incident at the Sevier Valley Center on Nov. 22, according to the affidavit. Upon further investigation, the officer reported learning that Peck had a truck that matched the one seen in the school surveillance video.

"Christopher is currently on parole for sexual related offenses, and is a registered sexual offender. Christopher was on school property and remained on school property with the intent of committing another sexual offense. Christopher is a threat to the community, and showed complete disregard for his parole/sexual offender stipulations. Christopher should be held without bail to prevent others from being victimized," the officer wrote in the affidavit.

Peck was convicted of sex abuse of a child in 2009 and as sentenced to a term of one to 20 years in the Utah State Prison, according to court records. In 2002 he was convicted of attempted forcible sexual abuse and sentenced to up to five years in prison.
