CENTERVILLE — A driver was believed to be critically injured when a vehicle crashed through the front of a Centerville home Friday evening, but police said Saturday that it was determined that he had minor scrapes and was incoherent due to drug use.
Centerville Police Lt. Allen Ackerson said police first received a report of a "reckless driver" near 1776 N. 400 West. The caller said a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed through a neighborhood. Police said that the driver was going around 85 mph in a neighborhood area with a speed limit of 25 mph.
The driver of the vehicle somehow lost control and hit another car and a mailbox and before going airborne and crashing into the house, Ackerson said.
Police said the driver, Brandon Paul Levie, 39, of Centerville, was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and criminal mischief.
According to a Centerville Police Department press release, officers found a drug known as "molly" or "ecstasy" hidden in Levie's shoes and they obtained a warrant for a blood test.
The driver of the second car, who Ackerson said was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries.
Nobody was in the home that was hit when the crash happened, the lieutenant said. Neighbors told police that the homeowners are currently serving a church mission in Arizona, and their children who are housesitting were at the hospital for the birth of a baby.
