VERNAL — Troopers have identified a woman killed in a head-on crash on U.S. 40, troopers said.

About 11:16 a.m., a Jeep Cherokee was driving west near Vernal when an eastbound Dodge Ram drifted to the left, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The pickup truck hit the Jeep head-on, troopers said, killing the driver of the Jeep, 67-year old Mary M. Smuin, of Vernal, on impact.

The pickup driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Lane restrictions remained in place in the area, on U.S. 40 for a few hours after the crash.
