SALT LAKE CITY — Not to project too much here, but Snow College President Brad Cook is likely bringing doughnuts to the office tomorrow.

The college with campuses in Ephraim and Richfield, Snow College ranked seventh among public colleges in the West region in the 2022 U.S. News and World Report's college rankings and 28th overall in the West with private colleges included.

U.S. News rankings are based on measures of quality, including outcomes, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources and student excellence.

In 2020, Snow College was ranked No. 1 in the nation for student success, according to an unsolicited report by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The college, which offers associate degrees and some bachelor's degrees, boasts an 85% success rate, according to its website. About 43% of its students graduate and 42% transfer.

This was the 37th edition of the Best Colleges rankings, which are intended to help students and their families make the right college choice, according to the U.S. News website.

The compilation includes rankings for 1,466 colleges and universities. More than 1,850 schools reported most of the data to U.S. News in an annual survey and are asked to confirm the accuracy of their data.

U.S. News measured academic quality using 17 metrics, which included the ability of a college to retain and graduate its students from different socioeconomic backgrounds but also their graduates' average indebtedness.

Other key metrics include class size, undergraduate academic reputation and how much colleges invest in instruction and student services.

The top 10 national universities were mostly unchanged from a year ago: Princeton University at No. 1, with Columbia University, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology tied at No. 2.

Yale University ranked No. 5 in 2022, dropping from No. 4 in 2021.

Stanford University and the University of Chicago remained tied at No. 6. The University of Pennsylvania remained at No. 8. Four colleges tied at No. 9: California Institute of Technology, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University and Northwestern University. Duke is the only new school to crack the top 10, moving up from No. 12 in the previous year's rankings.
