BOUNTIFUL — A naked Idaho man was arrested early Sunday following a standoff with a SWAT team that was preceded by a police chase.

About 2:30 a.m., Bountiful police received multiple calls reporting a truck driving recklessly and attempting to ram another vehicle. The driver of the truck then collided with another vehicle near 2600 S. Main in Bountiful and fled, according to a statement from Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Dave Edwards.

Officers located the truck near 1500 S. Main and said it and another vehicle had crashed. An officer said the driver of the truck was "belligerent and appeared to be irate," according to a police booking affidavit.

"He then drove his vehicle from the Maverick parking lot and rammed my vehicle, which I stood behind," a Bountiful police officer wrote. "I fled from my vehicle as he approached and watched as he fled the scene from responding officers."

"The suspected attempted to ram two additional police vehicles and was pursued to the area of Bountiful Boulevard and 400 South, where he entered a cul-de-sac and a standoff ensued," Edwards said.

The man refused commands and refused to surrender, police said. The South Davis Metro SWAT team was called to the scene and the man was eventually taken into custody.

Cory Adams, 51, of Shoshone, Idaho, was booked into Davis County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, fleeing, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and disorderly conduct.

"The suspect appeared to have no ability to understand what was taking place around him and crashed his car into many vehicles. He rammed the vehicle of an officer while the officer ran from the vehicle to safety," states the affidavit in requesting a judge to order that Adams be held without bail.

"The suspect was completely nude at the time of arrest and possess a risk to society if he is able to obtain access to any weapon, to include a vehicle."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Bountiful police at 801-298-6000.
