SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a man accused of shooting another man who was trying to break up a fight at Liberty Park.
Aaron Kage Chesnut, 22, who police say is homeless, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and drug possession.
About 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, a man was shot in the leg at Liberty Park near 600 East and 1300 South, according to Salt Lake police. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The victim told detectives that a man named "KC" had first "pistol whipped" him before shooting him in the leg, according to a police booking affidavit.
Investigators were able to identify KC as Chesnut. On Wednesday, the victim of the shooting called police and told them Chesnutt was back at the park, the affidavit states. Officers from the Liberty Park Bike Patrol unit located Chestnut and arrested him.
