SOUTH JORDAN — A man suffered critical injuries but is expected to survive after an overnight shooting at a house party in South Jordan, police say.
About 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a "pretty chaotic scene" near 3600 West and 10000 South, South Jordan Police Lt. Matt Pennington said.
He said a group of people, including the shooting victim, arrived at the party and got in a fight with some people who were already there.
Two men started fighting in the garage of the house, and the fight spilled out into the driveway, according to Pennington. At some point, a 23-year-old man was shot in the chest. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but as of 12 p.m. Sunday, he had come out of surgery and had stabilized.
Police took a 19-year-old man into custody in connection with the shooting, Pennington added, though, the man was not identified.
Police don't know what the two men were fighting about, as they appear to be unknown to each other, Pennington said.
Further information about the shooting wasn't released.
It's the second shooting reported at a house party this weekend after two people were killed at a shooting at a house party in Magna on Sunday.
