WENDOVER — Three men were taken to University Hospital by air ambulance on Sunday after separate incidents where they lost control of their land speed vehicles at Bonneville Salt Flats, racing officials said on Facebook.
Lloyd Halsey, 81, was traveling at a speed of 212.389 mph when he lost control of his vehicle about 11:15 a.m., according to the Southern California Timing Association. Later, Bob Lewis, 77, lost control of his motorcycle while traveling 97 mph at 1:29 p.m. At 3:42 p.m., Parker Merrill, 73, lost control of his vehicle, traveling at 189.722 mph.
All three men were treated by medical professionals at the scene before being transported. The extent of their injuries was not released.
Racing officials said the causes of the three incidents are currently under investigation.
