CLEARFIELD — A 1-year-old child died on Thursday after they were hit by a car in their home driveway near 1340 W. 1045 South, Clearfield police said.

According to Clearfield Police Assistant Chief Devin Rogers, dispatch received a call at about 10:40 a.m. reporting that a child had been run over and was possibly dead.

Emergency medical services arrived and confirmed that the child's injuries were fatal and beyond medical help, Rogers said.

Rogers said that the family was preparing to go on a camping trip and thought the child was inside a gated backyard. When the vehicle was moved, the child had gotten out of the yard and was hit.

Rogers said that all indications in the case are that it was a tragic accident.

Family members and the child will not be identified, according to police.
