PROVO — Jake Toolson's basketball career took him from his native Arizona to Provo, with a move to Orem, back to Provo and finally a stay with the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA G League following Utah Jazz training camp.

His next step will take him across the Atlantic Ocean.

After spending time in the G League bubble with the Stars, Toolson will head overseas to play with BG Gottingen in the German Bundesliga for the 2021-22 season, the club announced Friday.

"I am very happy about this commitment. Jake is a versatile player who can be used in all guard positions," BG coach Roel Moors said in German in a statement from the club that formally plays in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, or Bundesliga for short. "He's a good shooter and passer with a very good basketball IQ."

Toolson shot 47% from 3-point range as a senior for the Cougars, when he averaged 15.2 points, 4.8 rebound and 3.9 assists a year after winning Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors with Utah Valley. After the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the senior's final year at BYU, the 25-year-old Toolson signed a contract with the Stars and headed to the G League bubble in Orlando, but played in just one game before a foot injury ended his season.

Toolson had 5 points, two rebounds and two assists prior to his injury. He was waived in February following his injury, when the Stars also added former San Diego State guard Dakarai Allen to the roster.
