Utah County deputies seek truck in construction plywood theft

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — Deputies have asked for the public's help to find a truck and driver suspected in a recent theft of plywood from a Utah County construction site.

The Eagle Mountain Division of the Utah County Sheriff's Office circulated photos of the truck on Facebook, saying the plywood had been taken from a home under construction in the Arrival neighborhood.

"One night, there was a lumber delivery at one of our construction sites, and then the next morning, it was short about 20 sheets of plywood," said deputy Cassie Robertson. "We were able to get pictures, some video footage of a black truck with the plywood stacked up in the back, driving away from the construction site."

Robertson said the plywood sheets were valued at around $1,300, a figure that seemed to underscore soaring wood prices.

"I think it absolutely has a correlation with the price hike in lumber," Robertson said. "Lumber, I think, is triple what it used to be."

Robertson said with a high number of open construction sites around Eagle Mountain, crews have worked to increase their patrols at night, while cautioning crews to secure their sites and install surveillance cameras.

"Quite a few construction sites out here have done (that)," she said. "They've hired private security, they keep cameras up."

According to deputies, the driver of the black truck appeared to be wearing a bright orange construction shirt.

Anybody with information about the theft from the Arrival neighborhood was asked to contact the Utah County Sheriff's Office and detective Turner at 801-789-6707.
