WEST JORDAN — A man who was charged with capital murder in the death of a woman who was reported missing in Texas last year was arrested in Utah Friday, according to police.
Charles Beltran, 31, was arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail following a raid on a home in West Jordan where police had learned he may be located, according to a jail report.
The Dallas Police Department posted on Facebook Friday that the arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Violent Fugitive Task Force with the help of the West Jordan Police Department. Beltran was taken into custody without incident.
According to an affidavit filed in 3rd District Court, Beltran was wanted in connection with the death of 23-year-old Marisela Botello-Valadez, a Seattle woman who was reported missing after she was last heard from on Oct. 5, 2020. Botello-Valadez had arrived in Texas three days earlier to visit a friend.
Her remains were located in a wooded area in the southeast outskirts of Dallas on March 25.
Two women also wanted in connection with the case were previously arrested in Florida last month, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. Beltran, 50-year-old Nina Tamar Marano and 57-year-old Lisa Dykes were also charged with capital murder in the case.
The affidavit stated that cellphone records from individuals involved were able to link all three with Botello-Valadez's last known activity at a home in Mesquite, Texas.
Evidence collected by police between late 2020 and early 2021 from the home Beltran, Marano and Dykes all resided in led to charges being filed against all three before they were arrested. That included finding blood on a carpet that matched Botello-Valadez's blood.
It wasn't clear how police linked Beltran to Utah. Salt Lake County Jail records showed Beltran remained in Utah custody Saturday. He is expected to extradited back to Texas to face murder charges.
