ST. GEORGE — A 45-year-old man died after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle turning into a parking lot on Thursday, officials said.

Around 7:10 a.m., the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Dixie Drive when a northbound car took a left turn into a parking lot near 800 North and struck the motorcycle in the roadway, according to St. George police officer Tiffany Atkin.

Atkin said that the motorcyclist attempted to lay his bike down, and the bike slid about 50 feet. The motorcyclist died en route to the hospital, Atkin said.

The motorcyclist was going at least 40 mph, which is the speed limit on the road, and it's unclear how fast the driver of the northbound car was going, said Atkin.

Further details, including the identity of the motorcyclist, were not released.

The crash is still under investigation.
