OGDEN — The regular basketball game between northern Utah rivals Utah State and Weber State has been postponed.
The game scheduled for Saturday at the Dee Events Center has been canceled due to a number of positive cases of COVID-19 within the Aggies' basketball program. The two schools are actively exploring options to reschedule the game, both schools said in simultaneous news releases.
It's the second game cancellation of the season for the Wildcats, whose road game Nov. 28 at Dixie State was also canceled due to an infection within Weber State's program. The Wildcats have not faced a Division I opponent yet this season, with wins over Division II Adams State and Westminster.
Hours after the cancellation, Weber State announced a new game with Boise State. The Wildcats will tip off against Boise State on Sunday at 2 p.m. MT at ExtraMile Arena in Boise.
The Broncos (3-1) are coming off a 74-70 win over BYU on Wednesday night and will face the Wildcats for the first time since 2005. Boise State was a member of the Big Sky Conference from 1970-1996.
Weber State is scheduled to open Big Sky play next Friday, Dec. 18 at Portland State.
Utah State's game against Dixie State on Tuesday, Dec. 15 may also be impacted, the Aggies said in a statement while pausing all team-related activities. Utah State also has a two-game Mountain West home series scheduled against San Jose State beginning Monday, Dec. 21.
