STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR — One person is dead after a passenger vehicle crashed head on with a semitruck Saturday evening.

The crash, which happened at approximately 8:15 p.m., involved a Volkswagen sedan westbound on state Route 40 by Strawberry Reservoir. The Volkswagen crossed the center line into eastbound traffic where it hit an empty double tanker semitruck, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The driver of the Volkswagen died at the scene, and no details were given about the individual's identity.

The Utah Department of Transportation tweeted that both directions of the highway were closed due to the crash. The agency estimated the road would be closed until midnight as they investigated the incident.

Officials said the agency was investigating alcohol impairment "as a contributing factor of the crash."

No other details were released, including the condition of the driver of the semitruck.
