PROVO — A missing hunter was found dead Sunday morning after a utility task vehicle crashed down a 1,000-foot slope, officials report.

Anthony Patrick Dugmore, 61, of Wasatch County, went hunting alone on a UTV in the Wasatch Mountain State Park at around 4 p.m. Saturday. He reached out to his family about an hour later but no one heard from him after that. Family members grew concerned and reported him as missing when he did not return Sunday morning, according to Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki.

Wasatch County search and rescue teams began the search at 7 a.m. with help from conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah State Parks Rangers. Dugmore was found about three hours later in the Little Deer Creek area within Wasatch Mountain State Park, acccording to a statement from Utah State Parks.

Stucki says officials found Dugmore's UTV off the trail, crashed down a 1,000-foot slope. They believe he was wearing a seatbelt, but not a helmet.

"The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the friends and family impacted by this tragedy," the statement said. "The incident remains under investigation at this time."
