SYRACUSE — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the location of the Syracuse Utah Temple on Friday.

The temple, which is one of the 24 temples operating, under construction or planned in Utah, will be built on a 12-acre site at the intersection of 2500 West and 1025 South in Syracuse.

While renderings for the new Utah temple will be released at a later date, the church said it will be a three-story building of around 89,000 square feet. The groundbreaking date for the temple has yet to be set.

The temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during April’s general conference and is one of seven Utah temples currently in the planning or construction phase.

Temples have also been announced in Orem, St. George (Red Cliffs),Taylorsville and the Tooele Valley. Temples in Layton and Saratoga Springs are currently under construction.

The Syracuse temple will be the third temple in Davis County. The Bountiful Utah Temple was dedicated in 1995 and the groundbreaking for the Layton Utah Temple occurred in May.

Latter-day Saints believe temples to be the “house of the Lord,” and are different from regular church buildings that hold weekly worship services every Sunday.
