VERNAL — A 48-year-old man was flown to the hospital after a Friday confrontation with Vernal police that involved a Taser and a police dog.
Vernal police recounted the incident on its Facebook page Sunday morning. According to them, officers were called to a Vernal home Friday on an "unknown problem" and, upon arrival, discovered that John Renwick had just violated a protective order.
Renwick had fled on foot, police said. They located Renwick, but he fled again when approached.
"After a short foot pursuit Renwick made aggressive actions at the officer," police wrote, "and a Taser device was deployed."
When the officer attempted to arrest Renwick, though, a "physical struggle ensued" and he fled the scene again. Police deployed a K-9 and Renwick was apprehended "without further incident."

Police wrote that both Renwick and the officer sustained injuries. The officer's were minor, and he was treated and released from a hospital.
Renwick, meanwhile, had to be "flown to a Wasatch Front hospital," and Vernal police wrote that his condition was unknown at this time.
Police say they plan to arrest him on suspicion of violation of a protective order, assault on a police officer, attempted disarming of a police officer, and failure to stop at the command of law enforcement.
"This case is still under investigation and additional information may be released if it becomes available," Vernal police wrote.
