Lance Bandley reporting Republican women in Utah say it's time the state step up and pass Jessica's Law to toughen penalties for sex offenders. 24 states have already passed the law that calls for much tougher penalties on people who molest children. Utah is not one of those states, but Utah Professional Republican Women hope to change that.
"You can't have somebody that goes in and molests a child, or harms a child in some way, get a slap on the wrist," Utah Professional Republican Women President Diane Yancey said.
Yancey says they're determined to get the law passed. "I personally am very optomistic that Utah will step out to the front, and really do some good things. Because we really value this type of thing in Utah, and I feel good about it," she said.
Yancey also said the group will make sure Utah does not pass weak legislation, with loopholes for offenders.
