Woman killed in Sandy shooting; juvenile in custody

UPDATE: On Thursday, police identified the woman who was killed as Aliani Mejia-Marin, 18, of Sandy.


PREVIOUS STORY:

SANDY — A woman was killed in a shooting on Wednesday and a juvenile male was taken into custody in connection to the incident, police confirmed.

The incident occurred at 212 W. Eastgate Drive and the woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition, Sandy police said. She later died from her injuries.

The woman was found with a gunshot wound in a car near the Sandy Mobile Home Park and police initially were looking for the alleged shooter.

By 10 p.m., a male juvenile had been taken into police custody in connection with the shooting.

The alleged shooter had been booked into a juvenile detention center by Thursday, police said.
