YUBA LAKE — Officials on Sunday morning identified the Springville man who drowned Saturday after an accident on Yuba Lake.

Luis Leon, 22, never resurfaced after he and a passenger fell off a WaveRunner after making a sharp turn, according to Juab County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Brent Pulver. A group of friends saw the accident and called it in.

The passenger made it to shore; neither person on the watercraft was wearing a life vest, officials said.

Officials received their first reports about the accident about 9:51 a.m Saturday, Pulver said. A search and rescue team, including divers, was dispatched to the scene.

Leon's body was recovered by rescuers at 5:40 p.m. Several agencies including Juab County Search and Rescue, Sanpete County Search and Rescue dive team, Utah Department of Public Safety dive team, Utah State Parks, Levan EMS and Juab County EMS assisted in the search, the sheriff's office said.
