VERNAL — A man in Vernal was shot multiple times Wednesday and a suspected shooter has been located, according to police.
Medical personnel arrived immediately at the scene in the area of 250 West and 400 North in downtown Vernal to treat the man, who’d been shot several times, according to police. No information about his condition was available Wednesday.
The man, whose name was not released as officers worked to notify his family, was transported to a hospital.
A suspected shooter was quickly identified, Vernal police said, and when officers attempted to stop a vehicle near 700 West and 450 South about 30 minutes later, the man got out of the car and ran into a nearby residence.
After officers spent two hours negotiating with the suspected shooter, he came outside but refused to cooperate with instructions, then turned to go back into the home, police said. Officers released a K-9 and were able to arrest the man, who was later treated for bite-related injuries.
There is no ongoing threat to the community, according to Vernal police.
