SALT LAKE CITY — A Cedar City man was arrested Monday after police say he groomed a young girl in his neighborhood and then sexually abused her.

Darcy F. Anderson, 69, was arrested for investigation of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sexual abuse of a child.

Police say Anderson inappropriately touched a 10-year-old girl in May.

“Darcy said he was just being nice and helping (the girl) in a grandfatherly way,” a police affidavit states. “I believe Darcy groomed the victim and is capable of further harm.”

In February, Anderson was charged in Washington County’s 5th District Court with theft by deception, a second-degree felony.

In that case, Anderson was to help facilitate a Japanese investor who agreed to spend $150,000 into a limited liability company that would create a drug and alcohol treatment program in Torrey, according to charging documents.

“Darcy had provided $120,500 of the funds entrusted to him to another corporation for a 10% equity interest to himself. He had also withdrawn or issued checks totalling $34,109.97 with no accounting of how the funds were business related,” the charges state.

Investigators found purchases made by Anderson for “hotels, rental cars, gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants” as well as “what appeared to be payments or subscriptions to online dating sites such as Eharmony and Match.com,” according to the charges.

In November, Anderson also pleaded guilty to DUI, according to court records.
