SALT LAKE CITY — A 32-year-old man was arrested Monday and accused of killing a 73-year-old man in Fairview, Sanpete County.

Michael Hartnell, 32, was arrested and charged Tuesday in 6th District Court with murder, a first-degree felony, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about 5:20 p.m. Monday from Hartnell who “stated he had killed someone and wanted to turn himself in,” according to a statement from the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to a residence on Cobble Ridge Road in the Hideaway Valley area where they found Joseph Vallejo deceased.

Hartnell is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court on Wednesday.
