SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 134 from Monday, with eight new reported deaths, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Tuesday’s totals give Utah 7,518 total confirmed cases, with 96 current hospitalizations and 88 total deaths from the disease. Previously, there were 7,384 cases in the state.
A total of 619 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state, up 24 from Monday.
Six of the state’s eight new deaths were among residents of Salt Lake County, while there was one death each from Utah County and Washington County. Three of the eight deceased were long-term care facility residents, while the others were hospitalized at the time they died. Five were men. One was under 60 years old.
The deaths included a woman between 60-85 years old who was a long-term care facility resident; two women older than 85 years old, also long-term care facility residents; four men between 60-85 years old, and a man between 18-59 years old.
The new numbers indicate a 1.8% increase in positive cases since Monday. Of the 177,311 tests conducted in Utah so far, 4.2% were positive for COVID-19.
The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began, including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease and those who have died.
Of the state’s more than 7,500 cases, 4,275 are considered recovered, health officials said.
A COVID-19 news conference was not held on Tuesday and the state's case count reporting was delayed for several hours due to technical difficulties. News briefings now take place once a week on Wednesdays, according to Gov. Gary Herbert's office.
