2 suspects in Wyoming killing arrested in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Two people wanted in connection with a killing in Wyoming have been arrested in Utah.

Jose Ramos, 19, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Monday for investigation of obstruction of justice, abuse of a dead body and drug possession. A 17-year-old boy, believed to be the alleged shooter, was also arrested, Unified police confirmed.

On Monday, police began investigating the death of a man outside of Rawlins, Wyoming, who was shot at close range with a sawed-off shotgun, according to a police affidavit.

“The victim in this case was shot in the chest. ... The body was left on the side of the road and covered with shirts,” the affidavit states. “Jose admitted post Miranda to covering the victim with shirts and changing his clothes before arriving in Utah.”

Authorities from the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation were able to track Ramos and the juvenile to Utah where, with the assistance of the Salt Lake County Metro Gang Unit, found the two near Utah Lake, according to police.

“Jose is being arrested for a crime which occurred in Wyoming, and was on his way to California. If Jose is released there is a high likelihood he would run from the law and evade capture,” the affidavit states.

Wyoming authorities now plan on extraditing both suspects back to their state.
