INDIANOLA, Sanpete County — One person was killed in a crash between a semi and a passenger vehicle late Monday morning, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. on U.S. 89 between the turnoff from U.S. 6 to the Sanpete County line between Thistle and Indianola, according to the UHP.

A silver Ford passenger car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason and hit a semi hauling an empty flatbed trailer head-on, the UHP stated.

“This area of highway consists of a single northbound and single southbound lane, with guardrail on both sides,” according to the UHP.

The driver of the Ford was killed. The driver of the semitractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, troopers stated.

The accident caused U.S. 89 — from U.S. 6 to the Sanpete County line — to close temporarily. Roads were reopened by 6:15 p.m.
