SALT LAKE CITY — Utah gubernatorial candidate Aimee Winder Newton announced Tuesday her running mate will be Utah State Auditor John Dougall.
Winder Newton, a Republican currently serving on the Salt Lake County Council, announced the news in a Twitter video and news release on Tuesday morning.
“John is a proven conservative leader and I am so excited to have him on my team,” Winder Newton said in the release.

Dougall has served as state auditor since 2013, according to his biography on the state’s website. He also served in the Utah House of Representatives for 10 years and graduated from Brigham Young University in 2000.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Aimee for Governor team,” Dougall added in the release. “I look forward to bringing more accountability to the state budget and providing more transparency in government under Aimee’s leadership.”
Winder Newton is part of a large GOP field of gubernatorial candidates that also includes Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, former governor Jon Huntsman Jr., businessman Jeff Burningham, former Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes, former Utah Republican Party Chairman Thomas Wright and former U.S. congressional candidate and businesswoman Jan Garbett.
Entrepreneur Zachary Moses and University of Utah law professor Chris Peterson are running for governor as Democrats.
