MURRAY — Police arrested an intoxicated man who they say broke open a door of an apartment and grabbed a 9-year-old girl inside.

Jorge Hernandez-Figueroa, 22, of Millcreek, was arrested Saturday for investigation of child kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, robbery, criminal mischief, failing to stop at the command of officers, interfering with an arrest and intoxication.

Early Saturday, multiple residents of an apartment complex called police to report that Hernandez was knocking on doors.

“Hernandez broke open the door to one of the apartments and found a 9-year-old female victim inside. Hernandez put the child victim into a headlock and forced her outside of the apartment,” according to a police affidavit.

He was confronted by another tenant outside the apartment, let the girl go and ran off, police say.

When Murray police officers arrived at the scene, they located Hernandez-Figueroa nearby.

“Hernandez ran ... and tried to hide in a nearby balcony,” the affidavit states. “Hernandez admitted he has been drinking alcohol and stated he was drunk.”

In June, Hernandez-Figueroa was convicted of burglary, drug possession and assault, according to court records. He was sentenced to a year in jail followed by two years’ probation. In 2017, Hernandez was convicted of aggravated assault in exchange for three counts of aggravated kidnapping being dropped.
