Members of the House Health and Human Services Committee will hear SB121, which received Senate approval on Monday. Lawmakers have said they hope to put the bill before the governor by Friday as the new cannabis dispensary system is set to begin operation next week.

In addition to allowing the state to conduct product testing, changes made by the bill include raising patient caps for doctors, clarifying that private employers don’t need to allow marijuana use and requiring the raw marijuana flower to be packaged in sealed containers with a 60-day expiration date, when it becomes illegal, rather than blister packs.

Other bills of note in committee include:

  • Members of the House Business and Labor Committee are considering HB211, which requires an owner of a residential rental unit to make expense-related disclosures to a potential renter before accepting an application or an application fee. The rental agreement must also include all amounts the renter is or may be obligated to pay.
  • The Senate Transportation, Public Utilities, Energy and Technology Committee is considering HB259, which instructs the Utah Department of Transportation to lead in the creation of a statewide electric-vehicle charging network.
  • Members of the House Education Committee will look at SB117, which would allow the Regents Scholarship to be used by students attending private universities like Brigham Young University, Westminster College, LDS Business College and Western Governors University.
