SALT LAKE CITY — A Duchesne man accused of holding a woman hostage for at least three days in his fifth-wheel trailer and beating her during that time will be back in court in January.
An arraignment scheduled for Monday in 8th District Court for Garren Thomas Breach, 60, was continued until Jan. 13, according to court records.
Breach is charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; making a threat of violence, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, all class B misdemeanors.
He was arrested on Nov. 6 when Duchesne County sheriff’s deputies were called to his property after a woman told a neighbor she needed help, according to police.
When a deputy arrived, Breach came out of his trailer and asked the deputy to “remove the woman who was inside,” according to a police affidavit filed in 8th District Court.
But when the woman eventually came out, the deputy could see she was in “extreme pain,” the affidavit states.
The woman, who had been in a relationship with Breach in the past, said she arrived at his trailer and he threw her phone into some nearby bushes, according to a affidavit.
In a newly unsealed search warrant filed in 8th District Court, the woman told investigators that Breach also “took her clothes and left her naked for multiple days without clothes against her will.” The woman was held for at least three days, the warrant states, adding that when she attempted to escape multiple times, she “was restrained in a bear hug and then hogtied and (placed in) pink handcuffs. She was told while she attempted to escape that he would kill her with a rubber mallet.”
Over the next three days, Breach beat the woman with a belt and his fists, the warrant states.
“The suspect admitted to putting her in handcuffs, putting a gag in her mouth and placing her in a bear hug. The suspect also stated the female victim was yelling ‘help’ when he chased her and restrained her against her will,” the warrant states.
The police affidavit added that the woman “attempted to run multiple times, on foot screaming for help attempting to draw attention, at which point the owner would chase her, threatening her life by stating he would kill her.” It also noted that he would “force her to the ground, hitting her and shoving dirt into her face.”
Doctors confirmed that among her injuries, the woman suffered two broken ribs, according to the warrant.
The woman told deputies she was also raped during that time, the warrant states. Breach told detectives “he had sex with her to calm her down,” according to the affidavit.
