FELICITY HUFFMAN RELEASED AFTER 11 DAYS IN PRISON
DUBLIN, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say actress Felicity Huffman has been released from a federal prison in California on the 11th day of a 14-day sentence for her role in the college admissions scandal. The U.S. Bureau of Prisons says the "Desperate Housewives" star was released from the low-security prison for women in the San Francisco Bay Area on Friday morning. Under prison policy, inmate scheduled for weekend release are let out on Friday.
WEINSTEIN JEERED AT NYC ACTORS SHOWCASE
NEW YORK (AP) — Harvey Weinstein (WYN'-steen) was mocked from the stage and jeered by attendees at a New York City actors showcase. It was a rare public appearance by the disgraced movie producer ahead of his January rape trial. Two people who heckled him were told to leave. Weinstein's spokesman says he and his entourage had nothing to do with their removal and the producer is "being treated as if he has been convicted." Weinstein is free on $1 million bail while he awaits trial. He denies the rape allegations.
PRODUCERS GUILD TO HONOR NETFLIX CHIEF
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Producers Guild of America plans to honor Netflix chief Ted Sarandos with its top honor, the Milestone Award, at its awards ceremony in January. Since 2000, Sarandos has led Netflix's content efforts including its first foray into original programming with "House of Cards" in 2013. Netflix is now the leading streaming platform, with several competitors including Disney, Apple and WarnerMedia set to launch new services next months. Producers Guild Presidents Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher praise Sarandos' leadership of Netflix, saying the company "has forever left its mark on Hollywood."
PIONEERING DIRECTOR LINA WERTMULLER FINALLY GETTING OSCAR
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Italian filmmaker Lina Wertmüller is finally getting her Oscar 42 years after breaking ground as the first woman ever to be nominated for best director. Wertmüller is being celebrated Sunday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the 11th annual Governors Awards along with Wes Studi and David Lynch. The 91-year-old filmmaker produced "The Seduction of Mimi," ''Swept Away" and the Oscar-nominated "Seven Beauties" among many other. She is still only one of five women to ever be nominated for the best director award.
ALEXANDER SKARSGARD TAKES CREATIVE FREEDOM WITH “THE KILL TEAM” CHARACTER
NEW YORK (AP) — Alexander Skarsgard had to take an unusual approach to his character in the new feature film, “The Kill Team.”
That’s because it’s based off a real-life person that viewers can see in a 2013 documentary, also called “The Kill Team.”
Skarsgard plays Sgt. Deeks, who is based on a U.S. Army company leader named Calvin Gibbs. Gibbs is serving life in a military prison for premeditated murder. Both films center on war crimes in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010.
Skarsgard says he took some creative freedom in creating Deeks, even though he’s based on a real person. He says Deeks is like a puppeteer in how he played soldiers against each other.
“The Kill Team” is in theaters today.

APPLE TV’S DEBUTS WITH ‘MORNING SHOW’ DRAMA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Apple TV Plus, a new streaming service, is making a high-profile debut with the drama series "The Morning Show." The behind-the-scenes look at a network program is part of the first wave of shows that will launch the streaming service on Nov. 1. "The Morning Show" stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, who also are executive producers of the 10-part series. Aniston plays a morning show anchor whose life and career are upended when her longtime co-anchor is accused of sexual misconduct. Witherspoon is an impulsive reporter who suddenly lands on Aniston's turf. Steve Carell plays the disgraced anchor. "The Morning Show" was in development when the Me Too movement began and shifted gears to address the issue.
DOLLY PARTON LOOKS TO "DOLLY-IFY" FOR KING AND COUNTRY SONG
NASHVILLE (AP) — The contemporary Christian group for King and Country were thrilled when Dolly Parton laid down vocals for their song, “God Only Knows.” Parton, not so much.
For King and Country’s Joel Smallbone says Parton told them she had to do it again and “Dolly-ify” it.
He says it worked, because everyone in the room was in tears.
For King and Country will perform the song as part of a Parton medley at the Country Music Association Awards on Nov. 13.

AFTER SON’S DEATH, CRAIG MORGAN FIND PURPOSE IN SONG
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Three years after country singer Craig Morgan lost his 19-year-old son in a drowning accident, he wrote a song about his grief, pain and his faith, called "The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost."
He performed it on the Grand Ole Opry and sent a recorded version to his friend and fellow Opry member Blake Shelton. Shelton started an impromptu social media campaign to promote the song, which caused a widespread response of fans reaching out to Morgan.
Morgan says that nothing has ever affected his heart and soul like the loss of his child, but he felt a push from God to perform this song and give comfort to others.
QUEEN HONORS MARGARET ATWOOD
LONDON (AP) — Shortly after winning her second Booker Prize, Margaret Atwood has received a rare honor from Queen Elizabeth II for her services to literature. The Canadian novelist and poet was presented with an Order of the Companions of Honor in a ceremony at Windsor Castle Friday. The Press Association quotes Atwood as saying that "when you see the Queen at her age and her schedule that she puts out, it's an inspiration to everybody, you just keep going." Atwood and British author Bernardine Evaristo split the Booker Prize ten days ago, after judges flouted the rule that there should be a single winner.
FACEBOOK LAUNCHES NEWS TAB
UNDATED (AP) — Facebook is introducing the "News Tab," a new section in its mobile app that will display news headlines selected by journalists. Publishers will be paid for the use of their material. The social network has long been at odds with news publishers who complain it benefits from sharing of their stories without paying for them. It's potentially a big step for a platform long characterized by its difficulties stamping out misinformation and its unwillingness to contract with publishers. The tab will include headlines from the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, BuzzFeed News, Business Insider, NBC, USA Today and the Los Angeles Times, as well as local headlines from several of the largest U.S. cities.
