WEST VALLEY CITY — Charges were filed Wednesday against a Kearns man accused of abducting a woman off a street in 2016, taking her to an abandoned house and then sexually assaulting her.

Edgar Zepeda, 25, is charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and four counts of aggravated sexual assault, all first-degree felonies.

On Sept. 17, 2016, a woman was walking in West Valley City when two men got out of a car, grabbed her, covered her eyes, and put her into their car, according to charging documents.

“(The woman) stated she was taken to an abandoned house where the driver of the vehicle raped her,” the charges state. “She tried to kick the driver and he told her that the other unknown male would attack her if she did anything stupid.”

In 2018, a DNA sample collected from that incident matched in a database with Zepeda, according to the charges.

A no bail arrest warrant was issued for him on Wednesday.

In November, Zepeda was convicted of theft by receiving stolen property and was placed on probation, according to state court records. A warrant was issued for his arrest in March for failing to comply with the terms of his probation. He was convicted of the same crime in April 2018 and placed on probation.

Zepeda was also arrested for misdemeanor assault in 2016.
