SOUTH JORDAN — One man is in custody after an early-morning shooting sent a man to the hospital in South Jordan on Saturday.
Two men were involved in an altercation inside a home on South Jordan Farms Road about 1 a.m. Saturday when a man in his early 30s was shot, Sgt. Nate Thompson of South Jordan police said.
"As we got a little bit deeper into it we found this occurred due to some type of altercation that had started earlier in the night amongst some roommates," said Lt. Matt Pennington later Saturday. "So you got a lot of people that live at that residence that are all roommates."
The relationship between the two men is not yet known. Thompson said the wounded man was taken to the hospital; his condition is unknown, but "stable," he said.
Pennington said the shooting was not related to the altercation, but it had carried on through the night until the suspect "ends up pulling a gun and shooting our victim."
Steven Roger Madison, 58, was taken into custody at the Salt Lake County Jail and booked on investigation of attempted murder, felony discharge of a firearm and domestic violence in the presence of a child.
The incident remains under investigation.
