SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will break ground on the Saratoga Springs Temple Oct. 19 of this year, according to a news release from the church Thursday.

The temple, which faithful Latter-day Saints believe to be a sacred house of God, will be built in the new Beacon Pointe subdivision, west of Redwood Road and north of Meadow Side Drive. Plans for the temple indicate that it will be three stories and approximately 87,000 square feet. A 21,000-square-foot meetinghouse will be built nearby.

Attendance at the groundbreaking is by invitation only, but those living in the area are invited to view the ceremony via a live broadcast at local meetinghouses, the news release reads.

Utah is currently home to 17 temples, and three more were recently announced in Layton, Tooele Valley and Washington County — in addition to the one in Saratoga Springs.

The temple was first announced two years ago in April 2017 by then-Latter-day Saint President Thomas S. Monson.
