LAKE POINT, Tooele County — A fire that started Tuesday afternoon in Tooele County and created a huge plume of smoke visible from parts of the Salt Lake Valley has grown to 1,719 acres in size, fire officials said.
The Green Ravine Fire; 1,719 acres, 10% contained
The fire started Tuesday afternoon just east of Lake Point. As of Wednesday afternoon, it is 10% contained. It is thought to be human-caused, according to Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands spokesman Jason Curry.
Fire officials expect containment to increase throughout the day Wednesday, according to a news release from Utah Fire Info.
Flames got within 200 yards of homes on Tuesday, but the fire moved up the hillside away from the homes. Firefighters now are focused on protecting communications infrastructure located at the summit of Farnsworth Peak, about a mile away from the current fire area, according to the news release.
About 110 people are assigned to the fire as of Wednesday morning, officials said. That includes several engine crews and three helicopters, the release said.
The Snoqualmie Fire; 128 acres, 60% contained
The fire began Monday evening and forced evacuations of more than 100 homes.
All evacuations were lifted Tuesday evening and by Wednesday the fire wasn’t threatening homes and was 128 acres and 60% contained, according to fire officials.
However, smoke could still be seen in the area, officials advised.
