TOOELE — A wildfire sparked Tuesday afternoon east of Lake Point in Tooele County has burned 1,000 acres and continues to grow.
The Green Ravine Fire, which was reported about 1:25 p.m, is burning northeast away from structures, according to Tooele County Emergency Management. Earlier Tuesday, the fire only measured about 300 acres.
No injuries were reported, officials said. People are asked to stay away from the area as fire crews fight the blaze.
Firefighters reported some residents were self evacuating in the area. However, no official evacuations were ordered as of 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The heat and wind were contributing to the flames, said Jon Smith, spokesman for North Tooele Fire Department.
Smith said winds shifted about 7 p.m. and 60 personnel were actively fighting the fire Tuesday night. Additional crews were expected to join the effort Wednesday morning, he added.
North Tooele Fire District, Utah State Division of Wildlife Resources, Bureau of Land Management, Grantsville Fire Department and air units were all fighting the fire Tuesday afternoon.
