NAPLES, Uintah County — A Colorado man died and two others were injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 40 over the weekend, Utah Highway Patrol troopers said.
Curtis Gray, 71, of Fruita, Colorado, died from injuries suffered in the crash. Another individual was transported to Ashley Center Medical Center in Vernal in serious but stable condition, while another was transported to the same hospital with what troopers said were injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and 4625 East shortly after 3:20 p.m. Saturday, UHP officials said.
Troopers said a person driving a blue 1993 Chevy pickup was westbound on the highway and attempted to turn onto 4625 East in front of an eastbound 2014 Ford Focus, which caused the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered injuries that were not life-threatening in the crash. Their name was not released.
Gray was a passenger in the Focus. He was taken to Ashley Center Medical Center and then taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Salt Lake City. He died en route to that hospital, troopers said. The driver of the Focus, whose name and age were not released, was seriously injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
