VINEYARD, Utah County — A 6-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car Wednesday afternoon, authorities say.
The incident took place on Parker Place Road in Vinyard, Utah County, just before 3:30 p.m., according to Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Spencer Cannon.
The girl was riding a battery-powered scooter down the incline of a driveway and traveled into the path of an SUV, which had backed out of another driveway and was traveling out of the cul-de-sac, Cannon said. The large SUV was driven by a woman, he said.
The girl suffered significant head and upper body trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, Cannon said.
Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash. Cannon said the driver was cooperative and participated in drug and impairment tests. So far, all information indicates that no impairment or negligence was involved, and based on known information there will likely be no charges filed on the driver, he said.
The identity of the girl was not released.

The girl suffered a leg fracture and was in critical condition but was expected to survive, Keller said.
