SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will seek a second term.
The mayor formally announced her re-election bid Saturday in a news conference at Salt Lake City-County Building.
In a statement ahead of the announcement, Biskupski touted her administration's initiatives designed to cater to everyone in the city by focusing on affordable housing, transit, economic development, the environment and public safety.
Biskupski, first elected mayor in 2015, is a former Democratic state lawmaker and the state's first openly gay elected official.
Several high-profile Democrats, including former state Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck and Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera, were expected to speak in support of her at the Saturday news conference.
Her challengers in the 2019 nonpartisan race include former state Sen. Jim Dabakis, two-term City Councilman Stan Penfold and businessman David Ibarra.
