EDEN, Weber County — One person is dead after a crash on state Route 158 near Powder Mountain in Weber County, officials said Wednesday.

Shortly before 5 p.m., authorities responded to an accident near mile marker 9 on Powder Mountain Road, according to Weber County Lieutenant Matt Jensen. When they arrived, officials discovered a cargo truck turned on its side in both lanes of travel.

A 37-year-old male, who was a passenger in the truck, was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene, Jensen said. The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.

No other vehicles were involved and though the investigation is ongoing, investigators believe brake failure may have been a factor, Jensen said.

Utah Department of Transportation officials first reported the crash on Twitter about 5:30 p.m. As of 6:15 p.m., SR-158 was closed at milepost 1, a mile east of the junction with state Route 39, according to UDOT’s website.

As of 10:57 p.m. delays on state Route 158 were less than five minutes, according to UDOT's website. Lanes were expected to be cleared by 11:30 p.m.

Officials did not release the deceased man's identity, pending family notification.
