SALT LAKE CITY — Some residents who were evacuated due to the Dollar Ridge Fire in Duchesne County were allowed to return home Saturday morning.
Residents who were evacuated in Zone 3, which includes areas on Sam’s Wash Road and near Starvation Reservoir, were allowed to return home at 10 a.m. Saturday.
U.S. Highway 40 reopened in the area on Friday evening with a reduced speed limit of 35 mph. No stopping is allowed between mileposts 56 and 59, where the fire is closest to the highway. Utah Highway Patrol will be enforcing that rule.
The Dollar Ridge Fire had burned 49,789 acres — nearly 78 square miles — as of 10 p.m. Saturday, according to Inciweb, the federal fire information website, and was 30 percent contained. It started on July 1 southeast of Strawberry Reservoir and is thought to be human-caused.
