PROVO — A new company has agreed to take over management of the embattled Provo water park formerly known as Seven Peaks.

The park has been renamed the Blue Island Resort and is scheduled to open by July.

Blue Island Group, LLC will manage operations at the park for the next two seasons, through 2019, according to John Anderson, CEO of Stardocs Media, a marketing firm hired by the group.

Blue Island also has plans for a buyout of the park, Anderson said, though he did not give further details about the buyout. For now, the park’s current owner, Parkprovo LLC, will continue owning the property while the Blue Island Group will handle its management, Anderson said.

However, Blue Island Group intends to own the park in the next few years, he said. The group wants to create the feeling of a resort at the park.

“The theme they’re trying to accomplish with Blue Island Group is to be more like a day at the beach,” Anderson said. “What that means for them is more of a resort feel.”

Utah’s Division of Corporations and Commercial Code website lists an Orem address for Blue Island Group, with a registration date of Feb. 5.

The group will handle everything from sales and marketing to guest services, as well as food, safety and employment, Anderson said.

Anderson said the park’s original opening date was set for June 15, but that would probably be pushed back in favor of a July opening. An annual pass is $59.99 and a family pass, which includes admission for four family members, is $179.99, according to the park’s website.

From last month:

The website also promises several changes for the park’s upcoming season, including renovated water slides, better-filtered water and new food options. Anderson said those food options are aimed to entice people to stay for multiple meals.

He said the park is in need of a few upgrades and repairs.

New cabanas are also being built at the park, so that families will have a place where they can have more privacy, Anderson said. Those will be expanded over the next two or three years, he said.

Blue Island Group representatives are excited to take the reins of the iconic park, Anderson said. They hope to move it forward so that the state can be proud of the park, he said.

“We think that the park is an amazing location,” Anderson said. “It’s beautiful. It’s a great opportunity to keep a water feature here in Utah and we want people to know about it.”
