OGDEN — Some Ogden police officers will receive pay raises as part of an effort to keep officers from leaving the department.
The Standard-Examiner reports the Ogden City Council unanimously approved pay raises for some local police officers on Tuesday.
The move comes after the Salt Lake City Police Department announced plans to bring on 50 more officers.
Police Chief Randy Watt says his department has lost 16 officers to the Salt Lake City department in the past 2 1/2 years.
Officers who work afternoon shifts starting between noon and 6 p.m. will get a 2.5 percent pay raise and officers who start after 6 p.m. will get a 5 percent increase.
The officers can also get annual bonuses based on their educational level.
