SALT LAKE CITY — The weather has been foggy, bleak and gray, which can often dampen our spirits. On top of that, the holidays also just ended and it can be hard to get back to the real world.

If you are feeling a little down this Monday, we’ve got you covered.

The KSL.com “Make Your Week” column features uplifting stories sent in from people outside the newsroom. To send in the stories that have made your day better, email them in 100 words or less to fjolley@ksl.com. Photos and videos are encouraged.

Crossing guard goes above and beyond

Ogden police

“‘Big John’ has been working for Ogden City since September 2009. He is a good example for the students, parents and even pets who use his crosswalk. Everyone who crosses is given a high five and pets are given treats. John is a team player and he takes his position very seriously and is quick to report any concerns that could cause harm our citizens, including the removal of a very large beehive at his corner.

“He has been known to supply students with gloves, bike helmets and other supplies he thinks the children need. He is an excellent mentor, role model and trusted employee. He volunteers at the homeless shelter and helps neighbors. This year, John and his wife will donate 50-60 backpacks to the homeless. He has been spotted buying meals for total strangers who are in need. John is very passionate and enthusiastic about what he does and it reflects in his actions.”

A very thoughtful stranger

Faith J.

“I was attending a work conference in Arkansas and was riding in the elevator with a stranger. She saw my badge and said, ‘Wait, your name is Faith?’ When I answered that it was, she smiled and said ‘I have got to give this to you.’ She had just been shopping and bought a few necklaces and bracelets at a boutique, several of which had ‘Faith’ pendants. She insisted that I take them. It was one of the nicest things a stranger has ever done for me and I want her to know that I plan to pay it forward.”
