WEST WENDOVER — A 15-year-old boy died Sunday evening in a shooting, and his older brother was arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting at a residence near 800 Ash Street on the Nevada side of Wendover around 7 p.m., according to West Wendover police Lt. Don Lininger. Officers discovered Manuel "Manny" Lopez had been shot in the torso, and despite efforts from medical personnel, the Manny Lopez died at the scene.

Officers were initially told the older brother of the victim, 21-year-old Ivan Lopez of West Wendover, “had accidentally shot his brother,” Lininger said.

Ivan Lopez left the scene when emergency crews responded, but family members and officers contacted him over the phone and he returned to the scene a short while later and turned himself in to authorities, Lininger said.

Ivan Lopez was booked into the Elko County Jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting.

Family members who were present in the residence are cooperating with police and the investigation is ongoing, Lininger said.
